Have you ever heard the saying, “If you keep doing what you’re doing, you keep getting what you’re getting?” Are you tired of talking to the same three people and getting the same answers? Yet your numbers don’t seem to be improving. Well those three people you keep asking are: me, myself and I.
In today’s unsettling economy, you will need more than a wish, hope and go get ’em tiger attitude. Strategic plans need to be in place with help and accountability to reach new heights of growth.
If you are struggling to sell more cars in a down market, this might be the best time to dial 911 and get some help. Now the last thing you want to do is place band-aids on your problems. These could include: upside down inventory, wrong inventory, fixed costs way too high, not enough profit, lack of funding, lack of lenders, lack of support, or lack of knowledge.
Books, but now Twenty Groups
I have read more books than most people and still do. I just read a new book called FL!P and it’s a winner. The quote I liked best was, “Action Brings Clarity.” Well the best way to get clarity is to quit talking to your self. You already have heard that story many times, and it normally brings you the same results.
Other books I have read such as “Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude” claim that if you are a businessperson, then you need to have a Master Alliance Group. That is group of like-minded people who get together and talk about the struggles, the victories, the accountability and plans that need to be placed into action to bring desired results.
Well, if you are a dealer this sounds remarkably like a Twenty Group. I can’t tell you how many victories I have heard as trainer on how Twenty’s help out dealers. I have also heard some sad tales too, so let’s not sugar coat this. Dealers say, well they are making me get out of my comfort zone, they are holding me accountable, and I don’t like that. Well I don’t want to come to the next Twenty because I didn’t do what I was supposed to.
Um, that’s why you joined a Twenty Group. Don’t expect change to happen like cooking food in a microwave. It takes time and commitment, but I can tell you, your group will grow you.
Sure, it’s nice to go away to nice hotels, and have some good food and see sights. But those that best utilize the program go because Twenty Groups are all about performance. Twenty’s help you with plans on how to change and how to sustain the change. The composites are an internal snapshot of your dealerships performance and then they are benchmarked.
I will say this, there are some sides of the pages you want to be on and others you want to flee. If you are on the right side of the crack, take your medicine like a good dealer and make the necessary adjustments. If you don’t play the numbers game, how will you put a plan together? If anything you will only be able to play hide and seek. If you get one thing out of this article, get this, “tracking your numbers accurately and religiously takes the guesswork out of process.” Say it again!
Selling cars today is a numbers game. Dealers that don’t track their numbers will then be taking shots in the dark. Tracking your numbers allows you to make modifications to your people, processes and ultimately your profits.
Imagine what it would be like to go to a master mind alliance meeting such as a Twenty Group, and hear the best ideas, strategies and come out of there with a solid written plan that will carry you to higher profits? Sign me up for that deal.
It’s almost like Marty McFly in the movie “Back to the Future II” where he was able to obtain the sports history and scores from the future. No matter what he bets on, he wins. Twenty Groups can have that kind of success and there are dealers out there today, who might have gone broke if they hadn’t joined a Twenty. The odds are in your favor if you gamble on a Twenty Group. I know, because I have spoken at a number of Twenty Group meetings and have heard more success stories than pictures in a mother’s baby brag book. “Yeah our dealership was only selling 30 a month, and now we are up to 75. Jump in; it will be the best bet you will ever place on your dealership. You will never get rich by being lucky or maybe you will if you play the lottery. If you abide by luck, then you have to abide by the results of luck, and in this case, LUCK is spelled out like this:
L – Labor
U – Under
C – Correct
K – Knowledge
