One of the most efficient ways for a buy here-pay here dealer to get working capital is to sell some of the finance contracts he or she has entered into. There are a variety of benefits to selling notes. For instance, I know a car dealer that religiously sells notes every month. One day I asked him why he sold every month. He said four words, “Time value of money." I learned that he would regain the vehicle's value over four to six months by collecting a good down payment and getting timely monthly payments. He would then sell the note and make pure profit off of the remaining balance instead of waiting 20-30 months collecting. This not only caused a snowball effect of growing a business, but produced an excellent profit.
